Bisca where?
The endless summer….Biscarrosse Plage – a hidden gem
Bisca what? Where is that? When my other half told me he thought we should spend our summer in Biscarrosse Plage with our campervan hire company PuraVida Surfari I couldn’t be less enthusiastic. I searched the place on the internet and nothing came up. Not one restaurant, bar or even hotel. This place looks dead I thought, but trusting James as he had been to Biscarrosse Plage on a kite surfing holiday a few summers previously I packed up and left with him on our adventure in early May.
We arrived to a small deserted little seaside town, very reminiscent of Dorset with plenty of beautiful pine trees exuding that wonderful pine smell. We drove through the town and up to the main surf lookout point, my first glimpse of the beach and the ocean. And my, what a view, I wasn’t disappointed. Biscarrosse beach is by far and away the most impressive, stunning coastline I have ever seen with huge sand dunes, and just endless, beautiful beach. And the huge waves crashing onto the shore are enough to take your breath away before you’ve even set foot into the ocean.
After 4 months of living in Biscarrosse Plage, I marvel at the delights that this little town has to offer – from the start of the season when everything is beginning to wake up, through to the height when there is a buzz in the air, all the holiday homes and campsites are full, little restaurants and bars spring up where once there were empty closed up buildings, when every evening is filled with live concerts, street shows, hustle and bustle of holiday, excitement, fireworks, fun, laughter, romances, candy floss, ice cream, to now, when tranquility, peace, calm, and endless summer reign. Blue sky days, perfect beaches stretching on forever with very few people on them. Biscarrosse Plage is my idea of heaven. A dog would love running on that beach everyday!
Come and see for yourself.
