We can arrange for you to picked up and brought to your camper in Biscarrosse for a small supplement to your booking. Bordeaux airport is closest . If you want the camper to be brought to the airport we can offer a ‘fly/drive’ service from Bordeaux at additional cost, however, this can work more due to needing two drivers and two people. We offer a discounted pick up and drop off service from La Teste, Archachon and Ychoux SNCF train stations which are nearby.

Can we leave our car with you?
Yes, we can arrange to for you to leave your vehicle with us free of charge and at your own risk. We will keep a close eye on it for you and can even arrange for it to be cleaned if requested. Just mention on booking.

Campers on seven day hire shall be available for collection on the afternoon of either Friday, Saturday or Monday depending on your reservation date after 3pm and be returned before midday on the agreed date, unless previously arranged with us. We can be flexible depending on your pre or post hire travel arrangements and our availability.

What happens if I return the camper late?
Campers should be returned by midday or at a pre-arranged time. We will give you one hour’s grace. However, if you are any later than that we charge 50 euros for every new hour that you have not returned. This is because we have limited time to prepare the vehicle for the next customer. Being late could affect some one else’s holiday. If you think you may be late or need additional days please contact us.

What are the insurance restrictions that are included with the hire charge?
The hire charge includes fully comprehensive insurance for one named driver in what our insurers consider a ‘normal’ occupation and aged between 25 – 70 and who have held a license for more than 24 months. It is a legal requirement for the camper vans to be properly insured, and we are guided by our insurers as to who we can insure to drive our camper vans. We reserve the right to refuse hire to anyone who is refused insurance by our insurers.

Are personal belongings covered in the insurance?
No. We insist that personal travel insurance is taken out by the hirer to cover all personal belongings and personal injury.

What if I have points on my license?
We can ignore parking and not more than two speeding offences in the past 3 years. If you have more endorsements, convictions or been previously suspended let us know and we will contact our insurers to see what the possibilities are.

What if I have a non-EU/UK/Swiss license?
We require to see a valid international drivers permit. The french traffic police will recognise this if you are stopped as it will have translation in French. These can be obtained cheaply online from your native country. From the UK, try IDL.ME.UK

What category of license do I need?
A recognised license that allows you drive a normal motorcar is acceptable

Can extra drivers be added to the insurance?
Yes, up to two additional drives can also be added (so three drivers in all) although each additional charge incurs a small loading cost.

How much is the booking fee and security deposit and what are they for?
There is a non-refundable booking deposit of 20% of your camper hire only (not extras). This is payable at the time you make your reservation. We also take a hire deposit of 1000 euros through PayPal that will be returned to you within a week after your journey, providing the camper is returned to us in the same condition as when you collected it. The hire deposit is taken so that we have recourse on customers who return the vehicle late, return it dirty inside, or have damaged the vehicle in some way. It is also there to go towards the insurance excess should you have an accident in a campervan. It is returned to you within one week at the end of the hire period, as long as everything is in order. Should we need to use any of the deposit money, you will be advised of this in advance and any remaining balance will be returned to you within 30 days of the end of the hire period.

What will the camper be like to drive?
Every VW transporter has it is own unique characteristics which is why people love them so much. They take a short while of getting used to but after which you will be hooked. We take you on a short spin so you can get familiar with the drive and provide you with some hints and tips for a smooth journey. If you stick to around 55-65mph or 90-100 kmph they are relaxing to drive. They also use much less fuel when driven like this. You are positioned much higher up than a standard saloon car so you get to see more of your surroundings! See the blog to get more aware of what they are like. No need to be nervous, treat them as you would your best friend. Drive in the ‘belle vie’ spirit and break downs will be prevented and your holiday uninterrupted.

Am I limited to miles/kilometers?
We offer unlimited mileage so you do not feel restricted or have to worry about counting the distance. However we strongly recommend you do not exceed 100 miles or 160 kilometers per day or over 750 kilometres in a week. This ensures both you and the camper do not get tired or too hot as this is when ‘hiccups’ occur! Drive two hours then stop and rest the camper for 30 minutes or so is best. Enough time for a wee, coffee and some snacks. On average most guests travel around 650 kilometres in a week and include the wine regions of Bordeaux, the basque country and Saint Sebastian and of course the beaches between Biarritz and Arcachon.

Are there seat belts?
Yes although mostly lap belts (like airplane seat belts). Please talk to us about seat belts for child and infant seats

Does the camper come with a fuel tank of fuel?
Yes and also a full 5 litre petrol canister too, please return both tanks full.

What kind of fuel do the campers take?
Unleaded petrol or essence san plom 95 or 98 unless stated otherwise

What is the fuel consumption?
It all depends how you drive them. We would recommend that you drive with alight foot as hard driving will result in a return of something like 12mpg and the possibility of a breakdown. If you drive more steadily, which is going to be more conducive to having a relaxing holiday, you can achieve around 18 mpg.

What happens in the event of a break down or emergency?
For peace of mind, you have full European roadside assistance cover that can recover you to a nearby camp site, local garage or back to us in Biscarrosse. If you are within range and we think we know what the issue is we can come out and fix the camper ourselves. We do keep a number of spare parts for these events.

What are the dimensions of the camper?
Length – 4.6m (approx 15ft). Width – 1.6m (approx 5ft). Height – 1.95m (approx 6ft 5in) including roof rack but not any goods stored on it.

What is provided with my camper?
We have listed what is included in each camper and what additional items can be hired.

How does the cooking stuff work?
We will provide the required gas for the burners in each van and show you how to work it as well as leave you instructions in your welcome pack. You can either replace whatever gas has been used or we can charge you for it at the end. We can also provide small portable BBQ but beware of restrictions against charcoal fires at many camp sites. Please do not keep any kind of fish in the fridge. Fish is best eaten fresh and the smell lingers for weeks and not a pleasant smell in your bedroom or for the next guests.

How many people will the campers sleep?
You can comfortably sleep two adults in the pull out double bed and additional persons can sleep in the awning or tents (to be requested on booking). The westfalia campers have a pop up roof that sleeps an additional two adults. There is also a hammock which fits sideways across the front of the camper that can sleep a small child or provide luggage storage whilst the bed is set up.

Is bedding provided?
You can either bring your own or you can hire them from us. Please detail your preferences on the reservation form.

Should I bring towels?
You will probably need a beach and bath towel. Again you can hire a towel pack from us if it is more convenient.

Are dogs allowed?
Yes, by prior arrangement and depending on size and type. We ask that owners are responsible for their dogs, and take care to cover seats with blankets to prevent them getting overly wet and muddy. Should any extra cleaning be required when the camper comes back, we will have to take this out of the hire deposit you have left with us.

Do you have bike carriers or roof racks?
Yes each camper has both and supplied at on request at no additional cost.

Can we bring our bikes/ body & surf boards or rent them from you?
On request each camper can be provided with a bike carrier that can hold two bikes at no additional cost. You can either bring your own or we can arrange bike hire for you. Each camper also comes with a roof rack that is suitable for carrying excess baggage or surf boards and other water sport gear.

Can I bring my hair dryer/ hair straightners?
As long as you’re staying on a campsite with 240v hook up, then your hair dryer or other appliances will work in the camper. All campers have 220-240V sockets and 12v sockets. We can lend you a 12v dryer if you need one.

Is there a heater in the camper?
We can provide separate electric or gas heating devices on request along with blankets and rugs to keep you snug.

How clean does the camper need to be when we return?
The camper should be returned with the interior cleaned including fridge and swept thoroughly. Any damaged or soiled areas should be mentioned to us so we can sort in time for the next booking. We clean the exterior body, wheels and windows after each vehicle is returned as well as interior windows. Please ensure all crockery, cutlery, bbq and utensils and the vehicle is thoroughly swept out before returning. Charges will be applied if not adhered to. If any problems please contact us in advance  so we can prepare.

What if something breaks or gets broken?
If something does go wrong or get broken, please do not worry and let it ruin your holiday, it can be fixed or replaced, we jet want to know so we can ensure the next guests enjoy the campers as much as you do. If it is something that you need and you can replace yourself (like some crockery or a camping chair) please just do so from one of the big supermarkets or bricolage (DIY).

What happens if I need to cancel?
If you have no choice but to cancel your hire period then charges will apply depending on how late you cancel. Please refer to the Terms &Conditions of hire.

Do we have to book camp sites?
This is entirely up to you. There are absolutely loads of camping options from free over night spots to full blown out holiday parks with swimming pools, shops and bars. Not knowing where you are going to be and on what day is part of the adventure of touring in a vintage combi. We recommend staying in small family run farm camp sites that you can often just turn up and get a pitch, especially with the dub and a smile! These are called Camping aire naturelle and are often not listed directly online. We are gradually preparing a list of these with comments and directions that we hope you will contribute to with the ones you find and like. Often the best times happen when everything is not planned. With a camper you always have somewhere to sleep and call home.
